Pharma.Aero announces the launch of the Sustainability Survey as part of the spin-off project Green Air Pharma Logistics with a focus on tertiary packaging and consumables. Aimed at members and associate partners of Pharma.Aero worldwide, the survey was tailored to address specific aspects of various segments involved in the air transportation of healthcare products, including airlines, freight forwarders, pharmaceutical manufacturers, airports, ground handlers, packaging providers, IT, and other service providers.
Background and Objectives
The GAPL 2 – Packaging project aims to develop indicators assessing the sustainability performance of tertiary packaging and air cargo consumables used for Life Sciences shipments. These indicators will complement the Lane Sustainability Readiness Index (LSRI) established as part of the first GAPL project with a focus on an airport-to-airport green lane.

Goals and Future Directions
The primary objective of this project is to establish criteria for selecting sustainable tertiary packaging and temperature-controlled options, thereby addressing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through enhanced circularity, waste reduction, and decreased aviation fuel consumption. The successful conclusion of this project is anticipated to pave the way for further sustainable pursuits in the industry.
