Projects launched
Nathan De Valck, chairman of Pharma.Aero says that after achieving its initial objective of expanding its membership base, Pharma.Aero now shifts its focus to topical projects amongst its members comprised of global air cargo stakeholders and pharmaceuticals shippers. Pharma.Aero currently consists of 20 members – of which 3 are top pharmaceutical shippers and 7 are key airports. The main goal is to achieve a reliable end-to-end air transport for pharmaceutical cargo. Together, the members will develop global pharmaceutical trade lanes, implement best practices, and share market knowledge and expertise across 5 different projects. One of the projects is co-led by a Pharma shipper.
Project 1. Pharma.Aero Shippers Advisory Group
The project aims to improve collaboration amongst all pharma stakeholders, ensure that Pharma.Aero stays ahead of industry trends and addresses issues that shippers encounter.
The participating Pharma.Aero members are Johnson & Johnson, MSD, Pfizer and Brussels Airport.
Project 2. IATA CEIV Pharma shippers validation
Nathan De Valck, cargo & product development manager at Brussels Airport explains “the project group will work with pharmaceutical shippers to validate and endorse the existing IATA CEIV Pharma checklist and audit methodology, resulting in a shipper-endorsed audit format, reducing audit workload and streamlining the audit process by the shippers”.
All three pharmaceutical shipper members, Johnson & Johnson, MSD and Pfizer, will participate in this project work group for which Brussels Airport assumes the coordinating role.
Project 3. Airside Transport Benchmark
Jimmy Nares, Section Chief, Aviation Marketing at Miami International Airport explains “the project group will come up with a framework for airports and their stakeholders to consider when reviewing airside transport solutions. It will also review all options and solutions that exist to avoid the exposure of pharmaceutical shipments to extreme temperatures while transported on tarmac”.
The participating members are Brinks, Brussels Airport, Changi Airport Group, Envirotainer, Expeditors, MSD, Mumbai International Airport, Pfizer and Sharjah Airport, with Miami International Airport taking the lead as project coordinator.
Project 4. Certified Pharma Lanes & Identification of Performance Indexes and Dashboard
Eddy Weygaerts, Transportation manager at Pfizer explains “the goal of the project is to establish pharma trade lanes involving “CEIV pharma certified” operators. The project group will also identify common KPIs during the process when the pharmaceutical shipment is being transported from airport to airport, and it will explore technologies to house the KPIs in the form of dashboards”.
The participating Pharma.Aero members are Brussels Airlines Cargo, Brussels Airport, DHL Global Forwarding, Envirotainer, Expeditors, EuroAirport Basel, Johnson & Johnson, MSD, MVD Free Airport and Singapore Airlines. Pfizer and Changi Airport Group are the co-leaders of this group.
Project 5. IATA CEIV Pharma Maturity Assessment
The overall objective is to work jointly with IATA to continuously improve the current IATA CEIV certification program, as well as to ensure the relevancy of the checklist. This project group will be launched in the coming months.
